Tony Riddle: A Conversation on the Benefits of Play and Imagination, Giving Our Freedom Away, and Running Barefoot
LISTEN NOW: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY | STITCHER
At what point in time between childhood and adulthood did we stop playing? Have we abandoned the child within us? What do we give our freedom to?
In this episode of the Align Podcast, Tony Riddle and I chat about play and imagination's place in adulthood. When most of us look back to our childhood, we remember wanting to be older and wanting to abandon the child in us. And once we finally go through the rite of passage of becoming an adult, a lot of us continue to push the child within us away because we tend to associate our childhood with being vulnerable. However, those times where we were the most imaginative and most playful in our lives are what helped us learn and grow into who we are today. Therefore, going back to that state of play and imagination can only help us further develop ourselves.
Plus, Tony talks about how fragile freedom is. In today’s world, we tend to develop materialistic tendencies that cause us to become attached to things. While we may think it is the material things that are taking our freedom away, it is actually the superficial attachment that we develop towards those things which causes us to lose our freedom. However, we do have the power to decide what we allow ourselves to be attached to, meaning that we can control what we value and give our freedom to.
